Art historian
Aged just twenty, a young art historian in the making, I was planning to write a small manual of choreographic performance, illustrated by example. But which example?
Without hesitation, only the brilliance of Vu-An fascinated me. “Éric Vu-An, l’Interprète” was intended to be a tribute and allow the discovery of this unprecedented phenomenon through words. The project was greeted with enthusiasm; I met friends, family, admirers, musicologists, his drama teacher, partners and dance teachers.
Rita Thalia, a particularly well-respected teacher, was full of praise for this attentive and particularly hard-working, physically exceptional student. We therefore tried to define the concepts of “clean dance” and “pure style” not forgetting “musicality”. All her kind thoughts and advice stopped me from getting lost.
